Incident report completed
The incident report regarding the allision of the 'Landegode' with the quay on Sep 4 has now been cpmpleted. According to the investigation, the vessel 'sucked' into the dumper decks (fenders) 5-10 from the ferry bridge. The captain gave some forward speed. The vessel quickly let go and accelerated towards the ferry bridge. The captain attempted to turn, but the vessel hit the ferry quay at an estimated speed of one knot. No one was injured, but there was major damage to the ferry quay and minor damage to the ferry. The ferry proceeded to SvolvĂŚr where passengers and cars were taken ashore. The ferry quay was closed for several days and the ferries diverted to SvolvĂŚr. The 'Landegode' has been stationary at the Havyard Leirvik AS in Hyllestd/Leirvik since Sep 10.
Ferry pier in Moskenes reopened
The ferry pier in Moskenes has reopened on Sep 10, 2025, and the service on the route Bodø-Røst-VÌrøy-Moskenes was back in normal operation with the first trip to Bodø at 3:15 p.m., arriving in Moskenes at 6:30 p.m. The last departure on the alternative route was from SvolvÌr at 7:45 a.m., arriving in Bodø at 11:45 a.m. The ferry pier was scheduled to reopen already on Sep 9, but the opening was postponed until the following day. The 'Landegode' left Bodø on Sep 8 and berthed in Kjøreneset near Leirvik on Sep 10, where it remained stationary as of Sep 17.
Repairs of ferry pier and ferry underway
The ferry pier in Moskenes municipality, which was destroyed, when the "Landegode" drove straight into, remained out of service as of Sep 9. Damage was identified to the cylinder, lifting tower, hoses, hydraulic pipes and railings, and the entire ferry bridge had to be checked for damage. Repair work began on Sep 6. The "Landegode" itself suffered minor damage in the accident. To remedy the situation, a temporary ferry connection was established directly between Bodø and SvolvÌr on the evening of Sep 5.
Repairs of ferry pier underway
The repairs of the Moskenes ferry pier were underway on Sep 8, and it was expected to operate again on Sep 9 at 4.45 p.m.. The sailings between Bodø and Moskenes in Lofoten were cancelled until further notice after the allision of the "Landegode" collided with the ferry pier in Moskenes on Sep 4 at 8 p.m. If everything goes according to pla the ferry service between Bodø and Lofoten will resume as normal. The temporary ferry route between Bodø and SvolvÌr was continued on Sep 8. It is around three quarters of an hour longer than the regular route from Bodø to Moskenes. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration encouraged travelers to follow Torghatten's website for updated information on timetables. The 'Landegode' shifted to Bodø on Sep 7.
Ferry allided with quay in Moskenes
On Sep 4, 2025, just after 8 p.m., the 'Landegode', serving on the route BodøâRøstâVĂŚrøyâMoskenes, carrying 232 passengers and 13 crew members, allided with the quay at Moskenes, causing significant damage to the ferry berth. The ferry ramp could no longer be used, so that the passengers on board as well as vehicles, trailers and buses initially could not get off the ferry, which had sailed straight into the quay. When the ferry tried to dock again, the ferry door fell into the sea. Via the loudspeaker system, the captain explained that the ferry dock was destroyed, and some motorcycles were overturned. However, no one was injured in the incident. The police attended on scene at 9 p.m. for investigations and opened a case. The passengers destined to Moskenes finally disembarked on a walkway from the ferry to the shore. Despite some damage to the vessel, the Norwegian Maritime Authority gave the ferry permission to sail on to SvolvĂŚr after the crash, where it arrived on Sep 5 at around 3:30 a.m. The remaining passengers and vehicles then disembarked. Meanwhile there was a chaotic situation at the ferry pier in Moskenes, where many people and cars were stuck without the possibility of traveling on to Bodø. The Norwegian Public Roads Administration inspected the quay area more closely on the morning of Sep 5, as well as the ferry, which will get necessary repairs most likely be carried out in close dialogue with the authorities in SvolvĂŚr. Before the accident, the ferry was to be replaced for conversion on Sep 8. The 'Landegode' was to change engine, from LNG to biodiesel, MEanwhile, all departures marked A in the timetable on the BodøâMoskenes connection were canceled until further notice. Travelers were recommended to consider an alternative route via BognesâLødingen. The Road Traffic Information Centre emphasized that the suspension of the connection wo0uld lead to additional traffic and challenges for road users visiting or living in Lofoten. With only one gateway to Lofoten, there would be extra traffic on the E10 through Lofoten. Traffic would also increase as many tourists who otherwise choose to travel via Bodø and Moskenes to or from the archipelago would instead have to drive twice through Lofoten. The repair of the ferry pier is the responsibility of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and their subcontractor, Operations were expected to resume next week at the earliest. The ferry was actually suspended until Sep 12 at 6 p.m., but this was a tentative date. Lift incident injured two
On Oct 1, 2024 at 09.25 a.m. the Nordland police district received a report of an accident at work on the 'Landegode', which was docked at Burøya, in connection with the use of a lift. There were two people involved. One of them has been taken to the hospital for a further check. Both were conscious and alert after the incident. The police attended on scene and carried out an investigation. The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority has also been notified of the incident.
Ferry adrift after engine failure
About half an hour after the "Landegode" sailed from Moskenes on June 5, 2019, at 7.40 a.m., being bound to Bodø, the vessel suffered engine problems and was temporarily disabled before resuming speed slowly after a gas pipe had burst and was leaking. The ship which had 155 passengers and a crew of 13 on board, was using the auxiliary engine, and the captain initially expected to have rectified the fault within an hour. But then it turned out that a repair was not possible, and so the ship at 8.30 a.m. continued its way with reduced speed to Bodø with an ETA around noon. But at 10 a.m. the ferry lost all engine power in pos. 67° 33.36' N 013° 43.90' E, north of HelligvĂŚr, and the captain called a lifeboat to assist. There was no danger of the ferry drifting ashore since she was 1,5 driving hours off the next coast. The lifeboat "Odd Fellow III" was sent from the station Bodø to assist the disabled ship and had arrived on scene at 11 a.m. The two ferries âBodøâ (IMO-N: 9151010) and âVaerøyâ (IMO: 9607382) as well as the lifeboat "Det Norske Veritas" were on the way too. There were also reports of smoke development associated with the reserve engine due to hot water, but no fire, and the situation was under control. There was nevertheless some heat development in the engine room. The JRCC sent a smoke diver group with a Sea King helicopter and was ready to move out with a so-called RITS team to assist if the situation worsened. At 11.42 a.m. the 'Det Norske Veritasâ took the ferry in tow and started dragging it to Bodø with four knots. The other three ships on scene escorted the convoy. The ferry was safe in port at 3 p.m. It left the port of Bodø after checks on June 6 at 5.40 p.m. and resumed its service from Moskenes at 8.45 p.m. Norwegian reports with photos and video: https://www.lofotposten.no/ferge/moskenes/bodo/landegode-fikk-motorproblemer/s/5-29-495719 https://www.nordlys.no/ferge/roykutvikling/nordland/stor-redningsaksjon-etter-roykutvikling-i-ferge-med-168-om-bord/s/5-34-1135183 https://www.nrk.no/nordland/full-stans-for-bilferge-med-155-passasjerer-1.14577142
