Engine trouble on St. Lawrence Gulf
The 'Lake St.Clair', en route from Montreal to Ringaskiddy, suffered a main engine failure and was disabled in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in position 49 30 27 N, long 66 16 25 W, about 40 nautical miles south of Sept-Îles on Dec 11, 2021, at 11.05 p.m. The crew carried out repairs, and the vessel resumed its voyage the same day with an ETA as of Dec 20.
Cargo ship safe in port
The "Federal Miramichi" has entered the port of Cherbourg around 10 a.m. on Jan 6 and was moored at the Quay de France. The ship had suffered a total failure of the propulsion system on Jan 3 180 km from the coast in heavy seas. The "Abeille Liberté" managed to connect on Jan 5 around 3.45 p.m., and during the tow weather conditions became better. The freighter, which carrying 22 900 tonnes of urea, will have repairs carried out in Cherbourg before leaving for South America. Tow to Cherbourg after total engine breakdown
On Jan 5 at 2.15. p.m. the "Federal Miramichi" was 12.8 miles NW of Guernsey with the tug "Hellas" (IMO: 7419690) in attendance which left her salvage station position in Torbay in the afternoon of Jan 4 after receiving the call. Due to the total breakdown of the propulsion system of the ship it was impossible to carry out repairs. In the afternoon of Jan 5 the "Abeille Bourbon" took over as the "Hellas" was unable to connect in winds East-Northeast with 40 knots and gusts of 45 knots, and the convoy finally arrived at the port of Cherbourg late morning of Jan 6. The ship with its crew of 21, which came from St. Petersburg and was destined for Paranagua carried 22900 tons of urea and 750 tons of fuel and 20 tonnes of diesel.
