Crew member tested positive for COVID-19
One crew member of the 'Anacapa Light' which has berthed in the Port of Newcastle on Oct 8, 2020, coming from Brisbane, was being treated in John Hunter Hospital for COVID-19. Nursing staff swabbed the 14 crew members that had recently boarded the ship. One man in his 20s was tested positive for COVID-19 and now receiving medical care and further tests at John Hunter Hospital. It is understood the pilot wore protective equipment and will not be required to quarantine because he was not considered "a close contact". Infection control measures were in place and the hospital remained safe for patients, staff and visitors. All other crew members were considered close contacts and will remain on board for quarantine and monitoring. Ongoing management of these crew will be determined. Further investigations are underway. It was initially thought the man had an old infection, but further testing was underway because the results were inconclusive. The ship was due to leave port in the night of Oct 10, bound for Indonesia.
