Mechanical failure off Patmos

On Dec 17, 2025, the 'Jersey' suffered a mechanical failure and was disabled and adrift about 19 nautical miles west of Patmos enroute from Navodari to Aqaba with 21 crew members on board. The Port Authority of Patmos was informed on Dec 18 at noon. Immediately, the local emergency plan was activated and a patrol vessel of the Greek Coast Guard as well as the tug 'Pothitos II' (IMO: 9186572) were deployed to assist. The 'Jersey' was assisted towards Kalymnos, where it dropped anchor off Pothia in the Kalymnos Bay in pos. 36° 56' N 027° 00' E. The ship was banned from sailing until a certificate of repair of the damage and class maintenance were presented by the monitoring classification society. The 'Jersey' remained stationary at its anchorage as of Dec 19.

The "Furkan" and "Salah Aldeen 2" have been denied access to the region covered by the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Port State Control. The "Salah Aldeen 2" has been detained in Tarragona since Dec 16, 2014. This was the third detention in the Paris MoU region within the last 36 months. The Vanuatu-flagged "Furkan" was detained in Castellon, Spain on Dec 20, 2014. This was the third detention in the Paris MoU region within the last 24 months. Under the provisions of section 4 of the Paris MoU, Article 16 of EU Council Directive 2009/16/EC1, both ships will be refused further access to any port and anchorage in the Paris MOU region, except a port and anchorage of the ships’ respective flag states. The refusal of access will become applicable immediately after the ships have been authorized to leave their current ports and anchorages. As this is the first refusal of access order, the period of the refusal of access will be three months for each ship.
