34 migrants rescued from two boats
On March 23, 2026, several departures of migrant boats were reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez in the Strait of Dover. The following resources were deployed by CROSS to monitor these boats and provide assistance if necessary: The patrol boats 'Cormoran' amd 'Jeanne Barret'; The coastal patrol boat 'Oyapock'; The rescue vessels 'Minck' and 'Ridens'; The lifeboat 'SNS 209 - Président JC Fortini' from the SNSM station Tréport; The patrol boat 'Maroni' of the Maritime Gendarmerie; The RHIB 'Ouranos' of the National Gendarmerie. Around 12:45 p.m., a gendarmerie patrol reported a migrant boat in Hardelot, heading towards the beach to pick up more migrants. The CROSS Gris-Nez mimmediately dispatched the 'Ouranos' to monitor the boat, as well as the 'Jeanne Barret', which deployed its rescue craft (EDO). The boarding took place in chaotic conditions. The 'Ouranos' rescued 12 people who were in the early stages of drowning. At the same time, the EDO of the 'Jeanne Barret' rescued six more people. The 18 migrants were disembarked in Boulogne-sur-Mer around 2:00 p.m., where they were taken into the care of the land-based rescue services. Meanwhile, the boat began its crossing to England. The 'Jeanne Barret' was dispatched by the CROSS to monitor it and be ready to provide assistance if necessary. It was taken into care by British rescue services in the late afternoon. Around 1:00 p.m., the Ault lighthouse was contacted by a fishing vessel that had spotted a small boat with engine trouble carrying six migrants. The 'Président JC Fortini' was dispatched by the CROSS to assist them. Initially, only two migrants requested to be rescued. After several hours of waiting, the remaining four occupants also asked to be rescued by the lifeboat All six occupants were disembarked at Le Tréport around 6:30 p.m., where they were taken into the care of the land-based rescue services.
89 migrants rescued in two missions
On March 3, 2026, several departures of migrant boats were reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez in the Strait of Dover. To monitor the boats, the following resources were deployed by CROSS Gris-Nez: - the patrol boats (PSP) 'Flamant' and 'Pluvier'; - the rescue ship 'Minck'; - the patrol boat 'Jeanne Barret'; - the surveillance vessel VCSM 'Maroni'; - the port surveillance vessel VSMP 'Rondache'; - the Port Security vessel PSMP 'ESMP 03' and - the RIB 'Ouranos'. At approximately 5:30 a.m., the Dunkirk semaphore station reported to CROSS Gris-Nez the presence of a makeshift migrant boat leaving the port of Dunkirk-East. CROSS then dispatched the 'Flamant' to monitor the vessel and provide assistance if necessary. At approximately 7:30 a.m., the boat picked up another group of migrants near the beach at Petit-Fort-Philippe. Around 1:00 p.m., the people on the boat requested assistance. The 'Flamant' recovered all 74 people on board and disembarked them at approximately 5:00 p.m. at the port of Calais. At approximately 6:30 a.m., the Dunkirk semaphore station spotted another migrant boat near the port of Dunkirk-East. The CROSS deployed the 'ESMP 03' from the Dunkirk to monitor the situation. Around 8:00 a.m., it was relieved by the 'Maroni' and the 'Ouranos'. Around 10:00 a.m., they were relieved by the 'Jeanne Barret', which was joined around 2:30 p.m. by the 'Pluvier'. Around 4:30 p.m., the 'Jeanne Barret' rescued 15 people who had requested assistance, including three injured. They were disembarked at the port of Calais at around 10:00 p.m. The injured were taken into the care of the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service of Pas-de-Calais and transported to the Calais hospital. On March 4, the CROSS deployed state resources in seven operations involving boats attempting the crossing from France to the United Kingdom. Eighty-nine migrants were rescued.
Multiple rescues from distressed migrant boats
On Nov 6, multiple departures of migrant boats were reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez, which deployed the following maritime and aerial resources: - The rescue vessel 'Minck', chartered by the French State; - The Customs Coast Guard vessel 'Nordet'; - The Navy emergency tug 'Abeille Normandie'; - The Maritime Gendarmerie's coastal maritime surveillance vessel 'Yser'; - The Customs patrol boat 'Jacques Oudart Fourmentin' - The patrol boat 'Jeanne Barret'; - The 'SNS 077-Notre-Dame du Risban' from the SNSM station in Calais, the 'SNS 087-Jean-Bart II' from the SNSM station in Dunkirk, 'SNS 276-Notre Dame des Flandres' from the SNSM station in Gravelines and the 'SNS 7-034 Notre-Dame des Sables'from the SNSM station in Berck-sur-Mer; - The patrol boat 'Ouranos' from the Calais gendarmerie's nautical brigade; - The patrol boat 'Rondache' from the Dunkirk Maritime and Port Security Platoon; - The surveillance vessels 'ESMP 03' and 'ESMP 04' from the PSMPs in Calais and Dunkirk; - An Air Environnement aircraft chartered by the State; - A French Navy's Dauphin helicopter based in Le Touquet; - A Civil Security's Dragon 76 helicopter; - A British Marlin aircraft. Following the sinking of a boat off Dunkirk, 94 people were rescued by state services. Simultaneously, a large-scale air and sea search operation was deployed in the area before the search was called off. Earlier on the morning of Nov 6, a migrant boat was reported in the Malo-les-Bains area. The CROSS deployed the 'ESMP 04' to assist the boat, which had struck the breakwater and thrown several people into the water near the jetty. The 'SNS 087' and the rigid inflatable boat from the 'Abeille Normandie' were also quickly dispatched by the CROSS. Several people managed to reach the breakwater on their own, while the rigid inflatable boat rescued one injured person on the breakwater and brought him ashore, where he was taken into the care of the rescue service. The boat then resumed its journey and refused assistance offered by the 'ESMP 04', and subsequently by the 'Rondache', deployed by the CROSS to relieve the 'ESMP 04'. Also on the morning of Nov 6, the CROSS Gris-Nez was alerted by the port of Calais that a migrant boat had run aground on a sandbank near the Walde lighthouse. The CROSS then deployed the 'Ouranos' to assist, which rescued one person and brought him ashore at the port of Calais, where he wase taken into the care of state services. Meanwhile, the Yser patrol boat monitored the boat, which had resumed its course. In the same area near the Walde lighthouse, the CROSS was informed that a boat was in distress on a sandbank. The 'Jeanne Barret' and the 'SNS 077' began a search. Once the boat was located by the lifeboat,all seven people on board requested assistance. The 'SNS 077' rescued them and brought them ashore in Calais for further care by the shore based services. Also in the area of the Walde lighthouse, the CROSS deployed the 'Jeanne Barret' to monitor another boat. The patrol boat rescued two people and then monitored the boat as it continued on its way, before disembarking the rescued at the dock in Boulogne-sur-Mer. On the afternoon of Nov 6, the Ault lighthouse reported a migrant boat in distress near Berck-sur-Mer. The CROSS again deployed the 'Jeanne Barret' for surveillance, joined by the 'SNS 7-034'. During the boarding process, the lifeboat rescued one person who was in difficulty in the water, before all were taken ashore by the fire department. While monitoring the vessel, the 'Jeanne Barret' rescued one more person who was requesting assistance.
184 migrants rescued in numerous operations
During the night of May 30 and on May 31, numerous migrant boat departures were reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez. First, the departure of a boat was reported to the CROSS in the Fort-Mahon beach sector. The CROSS dispatched the 'Jeanne Barret' to locate and monitor it. Some of the occupants quickly requested to be rescued. The 'Jeanne Barret's operational rescue boat (EDO) then rescued 60 people. Several people did not wish to be rescued and remained on the precarious boat under the surveillance of the 'Jeanne Barret', which finally retrieved them a few minutes later. All 78 rescued people disembarked in Boulogne-sur-Mer on the early morning of May 31 and were taken into care by the land authorities. At the same time, the CROSS Gris-Nez also engaged the 'Abeille Normandie' to assist another migrant boat in the Wimereux beach area. The tug monitored the boat until its engine failed, forcing all the migrants to request assistance, and recovered 61 migrants before being deployed on two other boat monitoring operations. In the absence of a request for assistance from them, the 'Abeille Normandie' was able to sail to Boulogne-sur-Mer to drop off the migrants. On the early morning of May 31, the patrol boat picked up nine migrants requesting rescue. They were disembarked in Calais n the early afternoon. At midday, the 'SNS-067 - Mona Rigolet' from the Calais SNSM station was deployed by the CROSS to assist another boat off the coast of Dunkirk. Once in the area, the lifeboat began its surveillance and then assisted 36 people, who disembarked in Calais in the early afternoon. A total of 184 people were rescued and taken into care by government resources.
57 boat people rescued off Hardelot
On the evening of March 21, 2025, a migrant boat was reported departing the coast of Hardelot to the CROSS Gris-Nez, which then engaged the 'Jeanne Barret' to monitor the precarious boat. In the middle of the night, following engine damage, the migrants requested assistance. The 'Jeanne Barret' rescued the 57 people on board the boat and brought them back to the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer.
168 boat people rescued in numerous responses
During the night of March 20 to March 21, 2025, numerous migrant boat departures were reported to the CROSS Gris-Nez. Early on the evening of March 20, 2025, the CROSS Gris-Nez engaged the 'Minck' to locate a boat reported in the Slack dunes area. Once in the area, the 'Minck' monitored the boat. Faced with an engine failure, the migrants requested the rescue by the 'Minck', which picked up 62 people on board. They were dropped off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer in the middle of the night. The CROSS Gris-Nez then engaged the 'Abeille Normandie' off the coast of Slack. Following a request for assistance from some of the migrants, the tug rescued 35 people on board, including two injured people and one unconscious person. The CROSS deployed the French Navy's Dauphin helicopter based in Le Touquet to evacuate the unconscious person, whose condition was stable from the 'Abeille Normandie'. The Dauphin hoisted the victims and transported them to the hospital in Boulogne-sur-Mer, where they were treated in the middle of the night. The people rescued by the 'Abeille Normandie' were taken back to Boulogne-sur-Mer early in the morning, where they were treated by the firefighters. Meanwhile, the remaining people on board the migrant boat, who did not request assistance, continued on their way, remaining under the surveillance of French resources. In the middle of the night, the CROSS Gris-Nez then engaged the 'Jeanne Barret' and the 'SNS 076-Président Jacques Huret' from the Boulogne-sur-Mer SNSM station to locate a precarious boat in the Cran-Poulet area. The 'Abeille Normandie' was also deployed to support these resources. Once the overloaded boat was located, the 'Jeanne Barret' and the 'Abeille Normandie' launched their tenders to rescue all migrants who requested assistance. 63 people were thus picked up by the 'Jeanne Barret', which dropped them off at the port of Boulogne-sur-Mer early in the morning. Finally, also in the middle of the night, off the coast of Dunkirk, the CROSS Gris-Nez engaged the 'Ridens', which rescued eight people from a boat, wile the rest of the migrants continued on their way without requesting assistance. The 'Ridens' continued its surveillance until the early morning, and then headed for Calais to disembark the eight rescued people at the quayside. 168 boat people were rescued, including three injured people treated by land rescue services and the Boulogne-sur-Mer hospital.
