Helios

On May 4, 2026, at 5.36 p.m., the tanker 'Ginga Bobcat' (IMO: 9472737), enroute from Montevideo, was in allision with the 'Helios' in ​​the port of Campana on the Paraná-Paraguay Waterway, immediately activating the Argentine Naval Prefecture's safety protocols. The 'Ginga Bobcat' was sailing upstream with a cargo of 10,300 tons of sulfuric acid destined for the TFA terminal in Greater Rosario. The 'Helios' was moored and loading gasoline and diesel. The 'Ginga Bobcat' had a speed of about 8,6 knots when it hit the starboard stern of the 'Helios'. Both the port side bow of the 'Ginga Bobcat', which dropped anchor in pos. S 34° 09' N 058° 58' W after the accident, and the stern of the 'Helios' were breached and seriously damaged above the waterline. Authorities were assessing the structural damage to both hulls to rule out leaks. No casualties or serious injuries have been reported. The area remained under strict surveillance by the Coast Guard to prevent any environmental risks in the river. The Portuguese Air Force on Feb 4, 2017, medevaced a crew member of the "Sloman Helios". A 751 Squadron ‘Pumas’ EH-101 Merlin was sent to the ship, which was around 40 km from the Algarve coast. The crew member was hoisted up to the helicopter, before being flown to a nearby hospital in Lisbon. The helicopter then returned to its air base, having completed the mission in three hours.
