Bulk carrier refloated after one week
On July 4 the 'Lady Ayana' was finally refloated with the assistance of the tugs 'Gemi Kurtaran', 'Kurtaran 5' and 'Kural 10'. The ship was anchored in a safe location in the same area. As of July 5, it was moored in pos. 40° 57.08' N 028° 51.79' E. The response was coordinated by the Coastal Safety General Directorate. Grounding off Istanbul
The 'Lady Ayana' ran aground in the Sea of Marmara on June 29, 2024, after anchoring in front of Yeşilköy while sailing from Russia to Tunisia, in pos. 40° 57.15' N 028° 50.89' E. The lifeboat 'Kiyi Emniyeti 3' and the tugs 'Gemikurtaran', 'Kurtarma 10' and 'Kurtarma 5' were directed to the scene. After the damage assessment by divers and rescue teams, the salvage operation commenced. As of June 30, the 'Kiyi Emniyeti 6' had released the other lifeboat. On Nov 24, 2010, the "Pagona" foiled a pirate attack thanks to the use of Best Management Practices. The master of the bulkcarrier reported it was under attack approximately 620 nautical miles North East of Socotra Island. The merchant vessel, which was fired upon, started zigzagging. The skiff succeeded in approaching the "Pagona", and the suspected pirates attempted to board the vessel with hooks and ropes. The skiff was outpaced by the vessel’s evasive manoeuvres and eventually aborted the attack.
