Bulk carrier in collision with fishing vessel
On Dec 12, 2023, at around 9 p.m. the Philippine Coastguard responded to the collision of the Taiwanese longliner 'Sheng Feg No. 12' (MMSI: 416202800) with seven people on board with the 'Jawad' about 77 nautical miles off Candon, Ilocos Sur. The bulk carrier, which was still being verified by the PCG, came from the port of Changshu, headed to Muara Berau with an ETA as of Dec 16. The Taiwan Coast Guard (TCG), has coordinated with the PCG Command Center and requested assistance for the fishing vessel. The PCG deployed the BRP 'Malapascua' to investigate. The bow of the 'Sheng Feng No. 12' sustained severe damage that caused seawater to enter. The tuna longliner was missing the entirety of its bow and focsle, from the stem aft to the main deck level. The water ingress was controlled with portable pumps. On Dec 13 at 10 a.m. the patrol vessel was towing the 'Sheng Feng No. 12' towards Vigan, where it was to be inspected to ensure safety of the five Indonesian and two Taiwanese crew members.
