Feb 01, 2016 11:10

The "Dumun" was arrested by the Malaysian maritime police MMEA on Jan 30, 2016, three miles southwest of Tanjung Piai in the Singapore Strait, for illegal anchoring. The vessel had not applied for entering Malaysian waters. During the inspection it turned out that the ship had collided with bulk carrier "Castle" on Singapore roads on Jan 22 and was damaged in the incident. Three crew members of the "Dumun"were arrested, all 21 on board were of Chinese nationality.

Report: No checks before bulker 'Dumun' ran aground

Jul 30, 2012 09:00

One of Australia's busiest ports was not conducting equipment checks on departing ships when a coal carrier ran aground last year, a report says. The fully laden 32,000-tonne ship Dumun was leaving the Port of Gladstone in central Queensland on April 29 2011 when its steering failed and it hit a sand bar. The Panamanian-registered Dumun was stranded on the sand bar in the harbour's main channel for an hour and a half before it was refloated and towed back to an emergency anchorage. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau's inquiry into the grounding discovered the linkage between the ship's tiller and rudder angle transmitter had fallen apart. The steering equipment appeared to be operating normally but it was showing incorrect readings, its report says. By the time the crew realised something was wrong, the Dumun had run aground. The report says the port had no rigorous pre-departure checks and no contingency plans to deal with an accident. http://www.tradingroom.com.au/apps/view_breaking_news_article.ac?page=/data/news_research/published/2012/7/212/catf_120730_141800_9827.html
