LPG tanker arrived in Gujarat coming from Strait of Hormuz

The 'Jag Vasant' has anchored at a port in Gujarat late on March 25. The vessel's arrival at Vadinar port, after being stranded in the critical waterway for around 23 days amid the Middle East war, brought relief at a time the Centre continues to pacify concerns over LPG shortage in the country. Loaded with 47,600 metric tonnes of LPG, the 'Jag Vasant' was one of the several such tankers that were stranded in the Strait of Hormuz that Iran has all but shut down as it strikes neighbouring countries for almost a month. The 'Pine Gas', carrying 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG, arrived at the New Mangalore Port short time later. All 60 crew members on the vessels were safe. Their arrival added a combined stock of over 92,000 metric tonnes of LPG to India's existing stock, an amount equivalent to "roughly a day's cooking gas consumption of the country.

The two Indian-flagged LPG tankers 'Jag Vasant' and 'Pine Gas' (IMO: 9315680) were set to pass through the Strait of Hormuz en route to India after being granted passage by the Iranian authorities. The tankers departed Mina al Ahmadi early on March 23, 2026, and were sailing close to the Iranian coast. They will pass between the islands of Larak and Qeshm, a route designated by Iranian authorities for vessels granted safe passage. The 'Jag Vasant', chartered by Bharat Petroleum Corporation was carrying approximately 47,600 metric tonnes of LPG and was destined to Kandla, with an ETA as of March 26, and the 'Pine Gas', chartered by Indian Oil Corporation., was carrying 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG and was bound to New Mangalore with an ETA as of March 27.
