Attack on panmax-bulker at Samarinda
The "Star Manx" has been assaulted by robbers on Samarinda anchorage in Indonesia in the week Aug 12-18, 2013. The bulkcarrier was boarded by three attackers who took a crew member as a hostage, while another five robbers came on board. After stealing personal belongings and ship supplies, the attackers fled in a waiting speedboat.
The "Star Manx" was attacked by pirates
The "Star Manx" was attacked by pirates on May 14, 2011, during an attempted hijacking in the Gulf of Aden. The vessel was on its way from Åheim in western Norway to India with a cargo of olivine sand when it was attacked around noon. Security guards on board fired several shots before the pirates aborted the hijacking attempt. They had used a skiff of around seven meters. It took only ten minutes from from tracing the boat until it was alongside the ship. There were four pirates on board who had several weapons. After they realized that the ship was armed, they ran off without firing a shot.
