Medevac off Terneuzen
The volunteer lifeboat crew KNRM Breskens medevaced the captain of the "Yasemin" on Feb 2, 2013. The man, with heart problems, was rushed to the hospital in Terneuzen. The ship was enroute from Antwerp to Aliaga. The weather was too rough for the coaster and the captain decided to turn around and anchor near Flushing. When the ship sails towards the Wester Scheldt, the captain suddenly collapses in front of his crew and the pilot. After a brief period of unconsciousness, the man awoke again. Meanwhile, the pilot alarmed the Pilot station. The Coast Guard alerted KNRM Breskens and an ambulance. With ambulance personnel on board, the lifeboat "Zeemanshoop" left the port of Breskens to sail to the Oostgat off the Westerschelde. At Dishoek it came alongside the ship, and two crewmembers and two paramedics went on board. The ambulance personnel took care of the patient, while the crewmembers evaluated the situation to see how to get the man evacuated. After making an ECG, the paramedic concluded that he had to be rushed to Terneuzen. Moments later, the "Zeemanshoop" took over the patient and returned to Breskens at full speed. Here he was switched into the ambulance and taken to the Hospital in Terneuzen. The ship remained at anchor on Flushing roads.
