Engine breakdown off Pointe du Raz
On Sep 21, 2025, at around 8:00 p.m., the CROSS Corsen established VHF contact with the 'Amellia', which had reported a propulsion failure north of Pointe du Raz, enroute from Liepaja to Walvis Bay, following a breakdown of its main engine. The French maritime authorities decided to depรถoy the emergency tug 'Abeille Bretagne' (IMO: 9308687) from Brest. The Atlantic Maritime Prefect decided to activate the "Assistance to Vessels in Difficulty component" of the maritime ORSEC system. The CROSS then pre-alerted an H160 helicopter of the French Navy'. At around 8:30 p.m., the vessel crew managed to restart the engine and announced its readiness to continue its transit. The 'Abeille Bretagne' maintained its assistance arrangements and escorted the vessel out to sea, ensuring a rapid response in the event of further damage. At 11:35 p.m., the fishing vessel informed the tug that all repairs had been completed. The vessel continued its voyage en route to Namibia with an ETA as of Oct 12.
Two dead and at least 15 missing off Dhakla
Two men were confirmed dead and up to 15 were still missing after the "Midรธy Dakhla 1" was in collision with the Moroccan f/v "Taouss" which capsized and sank in the morning of Mar 1, 2014, in the Dhakla Bay. The accident happened 4,5 miles off Dakhla at Villa Cisneros. 18 castaways were saved by the rescue ship "Al Wahda" of the Moroccan fisheries ministry. There was an ongoing large scale SAR operation by helicopters, boats and rescue forces. The "Midรธy Dakhla 1" which had a master and 1st officer from Midsund, Norway, suffered only minor damage which did not affect the vessels's seaworthiness. The "Taouss" was said to have had a crew of 35.
