Guardamar-Urania

The 'Guardamar Urania' has rescued 21 migrants, 18 of them of North African origin and three sub-Saharan Africans, from an inflatable boat ten nautical miles south of Maspalomas on the morning of Feb 25. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas coordinated the response after receiving a report from the Civil Guard at 4:36 a.m. LT. The boat people were assisted to Arguineguín. On Jan 15, the bulk carrier 'Eurostar' (IMO: 9546203) enroute from Rio de Janeiro to Las Palmas, vessel, located a migrant boat about 148 nautical miles southeast of El Hierro. The vessel remained alongside the dinghy until the arrival of the 'Guardamar Urania', which was mobilised to assist by Salvamento Marítimo. The SAR boat escorted the dinghy towards Arguineguín, where it arrived on the late afternoon. On boar were 108 people, including two deceased, 82 men, 20 women and four minors. One occupant of the small boat had to be medevaced on the afternoon by the SAR helicopter Helimer 206 and transported to the Doctor Negrín Hospital in Las Palmas due to his poor health condition. On Nov 25, a canoe was sighted by the crew of a sailing yacht about 113 nautical miles south of El Hierro. The surveillance aricraft Sasemar 103 verified the sighting, and the 'Salvamar Navia' wass mobilized to the position. The SAR boat rescued the about 100 people on board and transferred them to La Restinga. In another case, a merchant vessel located an inflatable boat with 42 people on board about 85 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. A precarius boat requested assistance about 18 nautical miles south of Maspalomas on Nov 4. The CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo mobilized the Sasemar 103 aircraft and a merchant vessel, which was in the area and they located the patera with 15 people on board, among them one minor, in good condition. On the afternoon of Oct 20, the 'Guardamar Urania' was mobilized by the CCS Las Palmas of Salvamento Marítimo, after the bulk carrier 'Nord Topas' ( (IMO: 9992268) i), en route from Busan to Tanger Med, had reported an inflatable boat 93 nautical miles from Gran Canaria. The SAR boat proceeded to the position and rescued the 63 people on board, among them 16 women and two minors. They were transported to Arguineguín. On Oct 14 at 7:06 p.m. (Canary time), the 'Guardamar Urania' rescued 52 people, among them 43 men, seven women, and two minors, from an inflatable boat about 130 nautical miles from Punta Maspalomas. A merchant ship had located the boat and remained in the area until the arrival of the SAR boat. The disembarkation at the port of Arguineguín ended on Oct 15 at 1:20 a.m. The response was coordinated by the Las Palmas Maritime Rescue Center of Salvamento Marítimo.

On Aug 24, the 'Guardamar Urania' rescued 248 people from an overlaoded cayuco. The migrants were disembarked at Arguineguín. The 'Salvamar Spica' rescued seven migrants from a boat, who were disembarked in Almería. The 'Salvamar Denébola' rescued a number of people in the water, who were disembarked in Algeciras. On the afternoon of May 3, the Sasemar 102 aircraft located a small boat 60 nautical miles off Cape Bojador. The RCC of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas mobilized the ''Guardamar Urania' to the scene. The boat contacted the vessels in the area, and diverted the container m/v 'One Hamburg' (IMO: 9395159), en route from Singapore to Rotterdam, to the position. The vessel later confirmed that it had sighted the inflatable boat, reported that it was sailing at a speed of four knots, and was escorting it at a safe distance. Around 10:30 p.m., the 'Guardamar Urania' reported that it had rescued all 50 people on board. At 2:40 a.m., it disembarked them at the port of Arguineguín. On the morning, of April 6, the Guardia Civil informed the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas about a cayuco, which was located 15 nautical miles off Arguineguín. The 'Guardamar Urania' located and rescued 23 people. On the afternoon of April 5, the Guardia Civil informed the CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Tenerife about a cayuco/ seven nautical miles off LaRestinga. At 4:15 a.m. local time, the disembarkation began in Arguineguin. The rescue operation was oordinated by the CCS Tenerife of Salvamento Marítimo.
