Ferry suffered mecanical faliure of main engine
On the morning of March 25, 2025, the Port Authority of Lavrio was informed by the Captain of the 'Ionis' about a mechanical failure of the port side main engine, before the execution of its scheduled route to the port of Kea. The ferry was carrying 167 passengers, 22 crew members, 42 cars, 14 trucks and 2 two-wheeled vehicles. The Central Port Authority of Lavrio, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, initially prohibited the departure of the ship. After the repair of the damage and the presentation of a certificate of seaworthiness by the monitoring classification society, the ship was permitted to execute the scheduled route.
Allision in Samothrace
On the afternoon of Dec 2, the Port Authority of Samothrace was informed that the 'Ionis' allided with the pier during the berthing manoever at the port. The bumper on its starboard side was broken, and the starboard side stern suffered a breach of approximately 10 centimeters length and two centimeters width at a height of approximately 2.5 meters above the waterline. The ship was executing a scheduled route from the port of Alexandroupoli with 103 passengers on board, who disembarked safely. No injuries were reported from the incident and no marine pollution was caused. The 1st Port Department of Samothraki of the Central Port Authority of Alexandroupoli banned the ferry from sailing until the presentation of a certificate of seaworthiness by the monitoring classification society.
Engine damage off Lavrio
On the morning of Oct 16, 2024, the Port Authority of Lavrio was informed about a damage of the port side main engine of the 'Ionis', while executing the scheduled route from Kea to Lavrio. The ferry sailed under its own power to the port of Lavrio, where it safely disembarked 52 passengers, 11 cars, six trucks, one bicycle and one bus. The Central Port Authority of Lavrio, which was conducting the preliminary investigation, banned the ship from sailing until the damage was repaired and a certificate of class maintenance was presented by the monitoring classification society.
