Tanker arrived in Malabo days after attack

The 'Maria E', which had been boarded by pirates Southwest of Bonny on Feb 9, arrived in Malabo on Feb 11 at 4.30 p.m. The 15 crew members had sheltered in the vessel's citadelafter the attack in position 01 35 N, 005 07E. With the pirates on board, the crew managed to steer the vessel from the citadel.

Tanker attacked in Bight of Benin

On Feb 9, 2021, at 12.22 p.m. UTC he 'Maria E' was attacked and boarded Northwest of Sao Tome and Principe in the Bight of Benin. THe pirates were believed to have come from the Chinese-owned, Gabon-flagged fishing trawler 'Lianpengyu 809' which was captured earlier this this week and is now thought to being used as a mother ship. The boarding took place in position 01° 35N 005° 07E. The vessel was en route from Lome. The AIS was turned off since the tanker sailed from Lome in the morning of Feb 8.
