Improver

The lifeboat ''Hamburg' from the Borkum DGzRS station ofwas called out on the night of March 9, 2026, to assist a seriously ill crew member of a Norwegian offshore supply vessel and got assistance by the customs boat 'Borkum' as well as the 'Improver'. The captain of the wind farm installation vessel contacted the MRCC in Bremen, as a 47-year-old Scottish man on board was suffering from severe abdominal pain. The man was treated by the ship's paramedic,, but due to his condition, he urgently required further treatment in a hospital. Dense sea fog across large parts of the North Sea, with visibility sometimes less than 150 meters, prevented the use of helicopters. The MRCC therefore alerted thelifeboat, which set off shortly before 10 p.m. on the approximately 2,5 hours journey. The "Borkum," which had a paramedic on board, offered its assistance and arrived on scene around 11:30 p.m. It quickly became clear that, due to its design, coming alongside the wind farm installation vessel was not an option. To expedite the transport of the sick person, the patient, the customs vessel's paramedic, an accompanying person, and another crew member were first transferred by the customs boat to the 'Improver," which then proceeded to rendezvous with the 'Hamburg'. Visibility at sea had further decreased by this time due to the increasing sea fog. Upon its arrival, the liofeboat was able to come alongside the "Improver" immediately and take the four people on board. About 2,5 hours later, the patient and the crew member accompanying were handed over to an ambulance in Eemshaven.
