Medevac off Oahu

The US Coast Guard medevaced an ailing woman from the 'Grand Princess' 70 miles off Oahu on Nov 5, 2024. Joint Rescue Coordination Center Honolulu watchstanders received a phone call on Nov 4 at 6 p.m. from the cruise ship, requesting a medevac for the 29-year-old woman who was experiencing symptoms of appendicitis, while the ship was sailing approximately 570 nautical miles northeast of Kauai. Watchstanders consulted with the duty flight surgeon, who recommended a medevac. On Nov 5 at 6:17 p.m. an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point rendezvoused with the 'Grand Princess' about 70 nautical miles east of Kaneohe, Hawaii. The helicopter crew hoisted the woman and transported her to The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu. The patient was in stable condition. The US Coast Guard medevaced a 63-year-old man experiencing severe abdominal pain from the 'Grand Princess' off Los Angeles, on the afternoon of Oct 13, 2024. Watchstanders from the Coast Guard District Eleven Command Center received the medevac request at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Oct 12. The cruise ship was put on a communications schedule until they were within range for an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Air Station Ventura to conduct a hoist. The Jayhawk aircrew conducted the hoist the following afternoon at approximately 2:30 p.m. with an Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento C-27 Spartan aircrew providing overflight support.The patient was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel at Torrance Memorial Medical Center in Torrance, California. Cruise ship with Covid infections in Melbourne

Passengers onboard the 'Grand Princess' were infected with Covid-19 on an 18-day round trip from Adelaide to Queensland. It was unclear how many people on board were affected. The ship's laundromat was also shut after fears it had become a virus hot spot. Those on board needing urgent care were transported to hospital facilities in a way that was safe after the ship docked in Melbourne on Nov 10, 2023, and underwent a cleaning.
