Ferry crew rescued two fishermen

The crew of the 'Grand Manan Adventure' heard a mayday call and rescued two men on a life raft near Grand Manan on June 9, 2022. The f/v 'Ross Pride' had started taking on water around noon and was listing. The fishermen indicated that they were going to be abandoning their vessel, getting into their life raft. The JRCC immediately deployed a helicopter and a Hercules aircraft out of Greenwood, N.S. They also asked the Canadian Coast Guard station at Westport, N.S., and the United States Coast Guard in Eastport, Maine, to head to the scene. Before they arrived, the crew of the 'Grand Manan Adventure', which had immediately turned around, was were able to pick up the castaways with their rescue boats. When the ferry docked in Blacks Harbour, the two people walked off the ferry. The fishermen were commended for having the proper safety equipment and knowing what to do. Trouble plagued ferry sidelined again

The "Grandmanan Adventure" suffered engine problems on Mar 25, 2015, and after the ship was sidelined the sailings on Mar 26 at 7:30 a.m. from North Head, or 9:30 a.m. trip from Black's Harbour, the Village of Grand Manan announced on Wednesday, shortly after 6 p.m., had to be cancelled. Coastal Transport Limited crews were working on repairing the vessel. The issue started Mar 24 night when crews couldn't get one of the engines running. The ship sailed to Blacks Harbour on one engine on Mar 25 morning. No passengers were on board at the time.

The company that runs ferry service between Grand Manan Island and mainland New Brunswick says it will be at least several days before its primary vessel is running again. The $68 million MV Grand Manan Adventure has been plagued by problems and broke down again on Friday, Apr. 4, 2014. "We’re having trouble with a turbocharger," said Murray Ryder, president of Coastal Transport Ltd, which operates the ferry.
