Tanker assisted distressed cargo ship
On Dec 25, 2019, the 'BW Larissa' on its way from Map Ta Phut to Singapore along with the Indian Coast Guard assisted the cargo m/v 'Asian Star' and its crew of seven which had got in distress off Kochi. The ship had suffered engine damage and water ingress 58 miles off the Kerala coast in the morning. The MRCC in Mumbai directed the 'BW Larissa' to the position, which stayed in the vicinity until the Coast Guard ship'Savitribai Phule' had arrived and gave updates. The 'Savitribai Phule' reached the area at 4 p.m. A damage control team, along with a technical team embarked on the vessel and controlled the flooding. at 5.30 p.m., the team restored the main engine, and the ship reached its intended port Mangalore in the morning of Dec 26.
