Yacht stuck under tanker stern
The crew of the Gravesend RNLI Lifeboat Station were called on June 30, 2013, in the evening to the aid of three sailors whose small yacht had become trapped under the stern of the "Haci Fatma Ana" moored on the Thames near Dagenham. The men, who had recently acquired the vessel, were on their maiden voyage from Gallions Point Marina, North Woolwich, heading downstream when their outboard motor parted company with the boat. Unable to control the vessel it was swept down by the fast running tide under the stern of the tanker which was discharging its cargo at Thunderer Jetty. The vessel became pinned against the ship and was in danger of being capsized and swept under the overhanging stern. The Gravesend lifeboat managed to attach a towline to the yacht and pull it out of danger and to tow it back to a place of safety at Woolwich.
