Bulkcarrier grounded and refloated
The "Fu Xing Hai", en route from Nueva Palmira to Rotterdam with 40,000 metric tonnes of iron ore, ran aground in the Martin Garcia Channel on July 16. 2019, and was partly obstructing navigation, allowing only vessels with a draught of seven meters to pass. On July 19 it was re-floated with the help of three tugs at 2.45 p.m. The vessel subsequently sailed to Nueva Palmira. No damages or pollution have been reported so far. The Martin Garcia Channel has been cleared for navigation. The Sub-Prefecture of Carmelo maintained a constant supervision of the salvage work.
