Furia

The 'Furia', which had left the Russian port of Primorsk on Oct 21, 2025, bound for Sikka, which is used by Reliance Industries and Bharat Petroleum, abruptly reversed course in the Baltic Sea on Oct 28. It made a U-turn in the Mecklenburg Bight near Denmark and Germany, slowing to a halt, signaling a potential disruption in crude shipments between Moscow and New Delhi following new US sanctions on Russian energy giants. The tanker was carrying about 730,000 barrels of Urals crude from Rosneft. The reversal came a week after Washington imposed sanctions on state-owned Rosneft and Lukoil, requiring all transactions with the companies to wind down by Nov 21. Refiners in India—now Russia’s largest oil customer—have indicated that imports from Russian producers may fall sharply as they navigate compliance with the latest restrictions. India’s leading oil conglomerate, Reliance Industries, has effectively halted purchases of Russian crude following new sanctions introduced by the United States, the European Union, and the United Kingdom.The tanker itself was already blacklisted by both the EU and the UK.
