Spill during bunker operation

Aug 25, 2022 12:26

In the evening of Aug 22, 2022, a bunker oil spill occurred from the 'Al Saad' in the port of Monfalcone in the Portoresega area. The bulk carrier, which arrived at the port from Paradip via Suez, lost part of its fuel into the water during the bunkering phase. The causes of the accident have yet to be ascertained, while the hypothesis of human error was circulating. Aslick of diesel affected a section of the quay from bollard number 30 to 42 and required the intervention of an anti pollution company. The mayor of Monfalcone, Anna Maria Cisint, also ordered the ban on bathing on the beach of Marina Julia, given that an oily stain appeared on the shore. The incident was immediately reported to the Port Authority and was also being dealt with by the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea. 60 cubic meters of oiled water were removed.
