Wreck discovered during seabed survey
The 'Fugro Frontier' has discovered a sunken ship during seabed surveys for Lithuania's first offshore wind farm of the Ignitis Renewables, a subsidiary of the state-controlled energy group Ignitis Grupe, at a water depth of around 38 meters. After receiving the information about the discovery of the shipwreck, the operator hasinformed the responsible state authorities, as this finding was not previously included in the database. The sunken ship is about 70 meters long and about six meters high. More information about it is expected after additional historical and underwater archaeological research. 19 shipwreck locations in Lithuania's territorial waters in the Baltic Sea are currently listed in the Register of Cultural Heritage. The 120-square-kilometer seabed area designated for developing wind projects has never been surveyed in such detail. The Ignitis Renewables is also cooperating with Gavin & Doherty Geosolutions, a specialist offshore engineering and design consultancy that is part of Britain's Venterra Group, and Lithuania's Geobaltic.
Third and final Fugro Offshore Coastal Survey Vessel delivered to Fugro N.V.
December 15th 2014. Three months after its last delivery, Fugro has received the third of a series of three Fugro Offshore Coastal Survey Vessels (FOCSV) being built by Damen on December 12th 2014. Like her sisters, FUGRO FRONTIER is a compact, diesel-electric FOCSV designed for a variety of tasks. However, FUGRO FRONTIER has benefited from tailoring to the conditions she will meet in its chosen market off the coast of Africa. This will be utilised as a survey vessel where areas of shallow water would prevent a larger craft from entering. Although FUGRO FRONTIER is the third vessel to have been recently built directly by Damen for Fugro, recent years have seen the two groups developing a relationship through collaboration on a number of refit projects. A further vessel for Fugro is also presently under construction in Brazil.
