The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency activated its MRCC after receiving the alert and launched emergency procedures. The Pakistan Navy deployed the PNS 'Hunain', which was already on patrol in the area, to assist the vessel. During the operation, the Navy teams provided medical assistance to crew members, supported firefighting efforts on board, and carried out a technical check of the vessel to assess its condition. The 18 crew members who were evacuated from the ship, included nationals from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Vietnam and Indonesia. They were taken to Karachi for medical care before being repatriated to their home countries. A fire damage assessment was conducted by the PNS 'Hunain' after the blaze was brought under control. Bulk carrier caught fire after missile attack

Apr 13, 2026 13:18

The 'Gold Autumn', with 22 crew members on board, came under multiple missile attacks in the Arabian Sea en route to Sohar port on the morning of April 7, 2026, at around 11 a.m., a day before the US-Iran ceasefire. A fierce fire was blazing between the 3rd and 4th cargo holds. The crew rushed into the accommodation room on board to take shelter. Shortly after, another missile struck behind. A fire erupted above the accommodation and in many parts of the ship, and the main engine shut down, the captain instructed them to rush for the emergency steering gear room to navigate the ship manually. When everything, like the ship’s main engine, generator, emergency generator, and steering, went out of order, the Chinese captain announced to abandon the ship around 12:40 p.m. Some crew members tried to float the starboard side lifeboat amid the spreading fire and heavy smoke, but at one stage they lost it in the rough sea following its ropes being torn off. It was too dangerous for them to jump into the turbulent water to swim to the lifeboat, as it went far. They then rushed to float the portside lifeboat, although there was fire. The four somehow managed to get on board it, but at one stage, both of its ropes also tore off. They then noticed that the lifeboat's engine was not working, and they struggled hard to stay in the boat amid strong waves. The lifeboat drifted in the rough sea for several hours before a passing ship, the 'Eunice' came into sight when it was almost dark. They fired flares and managed to draw the attention of the ship’s crew. As the ship failed to come closer, they rowed to it with the boat’s oars and were rescued. After getting on board the ship, they communicated with the ship’s owning firm, which later managed to contact the Pakistan Navy for rescue. The Pakistani Navy ship PNS 'Hunain' arrived on April 8 at 8 a.m. It rescued 14 crew members from the damaged ship on the afternoon, and also received the four others from the 'Eunice'. They were all taken to Karachi. Four crew member,s remained on the damaged ship as they opted to be towed back to Oman. Regarding the repatriation of crew members, the agent of the ship’s owning firm communicated with the office of the Deputy High Commission in Karachi, Pakistan, and was waiting for its response. The Bangladesh Merchant Marine Officers' Association (BMMOA) General Secretary Md Shakawat Hossain has sent an email on April 10 to the Deputy High Commission in Karachi for administrative support to get a travel permit or exit pass for the five Bangladeshi crew members from the immigration office of the Pakistan government. Representatives of the embassy offices of China, Indonesia, Myanmar, and Vietnam have already communicated with the ship's local agent, and their seafarers' repatriation process was in progress, but they got no response from the Bangladesh embassy.
