Detention in Ciudad del Carmen

The “Go Canopus” was detained on May 23, 2020, by a naval patrol of the Secretary of the Navy (Semar), when it was sailing in the vicinity of Isla del Carmen, Campeche, because it transported more fuel that declared to the port authorities. The ship, with the capacity to load 800 tons, carried 450.000 liters of diesel, the purchase of which the crew could not justify. The two men on board, besides the captain and one engineer, were placed under arrest by the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (FGR), to start an investigation for the probable commission of the crime of irregular possession of fuel. The ship was returning from a 10-day trip from Dos Bocas, Tabasco. On May 27 at 6.50 a.m. it was moored on the Ciudad del Carmen Anchorage in pos. 18° 51.29' N 091° 52.20'W.
