On April 16, 2025, at around 11:34 a.m, the ferry ''Frisia E 1' (IMO: 1013250) was in collision with the 'Frisia II', in the Norddeich ferry port (Aurich district) while casting off. The accident caused a hole approximately 30 x 30 centimetres on the port side above the waterline. No one was injured, and no environmental damage was caused. The further investigations were being carried out by the Water Police Emden The ferry has not been operational since the accident. The damagewas repaired in the port. On the morning of April 16, the department of the German Transport Accident Insurance Association responsible for ship safety, was able to release the ship. During maintenance work aboard an excursion boat, a few liters of diesel leaked out and flowed into the harbour basin in Norddeich in the evening of July 17, 2023. The polluter immediately called the volunteer fire brigade in Norden and informed the responsible authorities. The strong wind quickly drifted the fuel to the opposite side of the basin between the berthed 'Frisia II' and the quay, which was a fortunate circumstance for the fire brigade, because they only had to deploy a few oil barriers in front of and behind the ferry. These absorbed the spilled fuel overnight. In addition to the fire brigade, the water police and representatives of the Lower Saxony Land Service for Water Management, Coasts and Nature Conservation (NLWKN) and the port operator NPorts were on site. The "Frisia II" ran aground between Juist and Norddeich in the morning of Jan 5, 2016, half an hour after the departure at 7.20 a.m. The ship had on board 650 passengers. Due to the receding tide it was not possible to refloat the ship before the next flood. The lifeboat "Carsten Knigge" went alongside. In the afternoon a paramedic and 230 blankets were transported to the ferry aboard the "Frisia 9", a smaller ship. Around 7 p.m. the ferry got off again with the rising tide. The traffic to and from Juist was closed already on Jan 2 because of the low water level caused by the strong east wind with the last ferry having sailed at 4 a.m. In the meantime 2000 passengers were waiting to get back onto the mainland. The "Frisia II" was one of five ferries which started the transport at 6.45 a.m. Four of them got through.
