The starboard side of the ship was damaged in the collision with the 'Gloria Maris' 9,9 nautical miles southeast from Algeciras at 5.20 a.m. and suffered a breach of several meters length above the waterline at the height of the bridge. On the morning of Dec 3, 2024, the 'Gloria Maris', with 25 crew members on board, was in collision with the the container m/v 'HMM St. Petersburg' (IMO: 9868364), with 24 crew members on board en route from Yantian to Algeciras, about 8.9 nautical miles southeast of Algeciras. The tanker had left Cartagena on Nov 30 at 02:00 a.m. in ballast en route to Gibraltar, after having unloaded 147,564 tons of crude oil in the port of Cartagena .The CCS in Tarifa was notified at 5.20 a.m., and the SAR vessel 'Luz de Mar' and the lifeboat ' Salvamar Denébola' were mobilized to assist. The crews of both vessels have inspected the areas of the collision, observing damage to the lateral structures, but without danger of sinking or spills. The Maritime Authority of Algeciras has banned both vessels from sailing. Further investigations were carried out by the safety inspectors to clarify the causes of the collision and check the safety situation of the vessels.
