Globe-Electra

The 'Globe Electra' will undergo another round of testing before it leaves the Townsville coast after three crew members of the Globe Electra contracted COVID-19. The ship, bound from Manila for Abbott Point, had to anchor off Townsville after two crew members who were displaying COVID-like symptoms tested positive to coronavirus. The pair were taken to the Townsville University Hospital for treatment. Further testing of the crew detected another positive case from an asymptomatic crew member. On Aug 31 all crew members have been cleared of COVID-19 and discharged. The crew would be tested again on Sep 1 before the ship could continue its voyage to the Abbot Point coal terminal. If all return a negative result, the vessel will be rescheduled for berthing at the coal port of Abbot Point, near Bowen in Queensland, pending completion of arrival formalities. Maritime Safety Queensland continued to work closely with Queensland Health on any decisions following the outcome of testing.

On Aug 21, 2020, a third crerw member of the 'Globe Electra' was tested positive for the COVID-19 virus and has been transported to the Townsville University Hospital. The crew will be retested. The ship had arrived in Townsville on Aug 14 after two crew members showed symptoms. They were taken ashore by the water police vessel 'Brett Irwin' for treatment in Townsville.
