Bien Dong Freighter saved crew of sunken coaster
On Feb 23, 2018, the "Bien Dong Freighter" saved the crew of eight of the Vietnamese flagged coaster “Binh Nguyen 86”, 1927 dwt (IMO-No.: 8665648), wwhich had sunk at 3 a.m. in position 18 36 N 106 43 E 40 Mmiles off the coast of the Ha Tinh Province in the Gulf of Tonkin. The Vietnamese MRCC had diverted ships in the vicinity to the position after having received an EPIRB alert. The "Bien Dong Freighter“, which was enroute from Haiphong to Vung Tau found two rafts and recovered five men at 6.43 a.m. and the remaining three at 7.30 a.m. in stable condition. They were transferred onto the patrol boat "SAR 411“ and taken to Vung Tau.
