Oil rig workers submerged in lift shaft
Two oil rig workers were submerged up to their chests on Dec 10, 2020, at 6.30 p.m. after sea water poured into a lift shaft during the emergency on the 'FPF 1'. But the men managed to press an alarm and escaped unhurt from the flooded elevator column. The operators Ithaca Energy launched a full investigation into the incident 150 miles east of Aberdeen which happened when a safety mechanism in the lift failed as the crew members were inspecting a tank on the rig, which is stationed in the Stella oil field. All personnel were safe and uninjured. All activity relating to the inspection was stopped immediately and the site has been made safe. The Health and Safety Executive were also probing the scare. HSE was engaging with the installation’s operator to establish further details.
