The "River Wind" en route from Rostov to Nemrut Bay, carrying a cargo of 3000 tonnes of scrap metal, ran aground on the Azov-Don Ship Canal in position 047 04 20 N, 039 05 27 E, 10 miles from Taganrog, on Nov 27, 2018, at 1.30 p.m. The vessel ran aground off the port of Azov near buoy No.29, due to a navigational error. The tug "Kapitan Demidov" started refloating operations at 11.30 p.m. After this was unsuccessful, the salvage operation was stopped due to adverse weather conditions on Nov 28 at 1.10 a.m. The vessel anchored at Kavkaz Anchorage on Dec 6 sailed for Nemrut Bay on Dec 7.
