Almeria

The "Almeria" which had anchored off Skagen during hull surveys by divers following the salvage on Oct 18 by Iskes Towage & Salvae and Bugsier Salvage the recent days, has resumed its voyage to Daressalam with an ETA of Nov 22 now. The ship had been pulled free after several unsuccessful attempts during a suitable tide as it had got stuck at high tide. Only after some of the wheat cargo had been lightered onto a barge and the remainder shifted within the holds, the salvage had become possible despite earlier hopes to get the ship free without lightering operations.

The "Almeria" received assistance by the German tug "Bugsier 16" and the Dutch tug "Brent" on Oct 18. The ship was refloated after some failed attempts and anchored west of the grounding site before anchoring off Kalundborg on Oct 20 and sailing further towards Skagen some time later.

Due to a navigational mistake the "Almeria" ran aground in the Kadet Trench on Oct 12, 2013. The fully loaded ship was hard aground outside the shipping canal and will have to be lightered. It was expected this may take upto two weeks. The anti pollution vessel "Gunnar Seidenfaden" was on scene. No tugs were ordered yet. The "Almeria" was coming from Gdynia and was heading for Daressalam via the Skagerak. It had left the fairway south of Gedser, getting immediately stuck with its drauhgt of 11 meters. It was possible the crew might have tried to tale a shortcut, but got too close to the southern tip of Gedser then.
