Sep 10, 2011 18:35

Energy Horizon, a new built japanese LNG tanker is being loaded with 145,000 cubic metres of liquid natural gas out of Darwin on the maiden voyage. She is the biggest ship ever to visit the harbour. The boat is 300m long and 53m wide - which is only about 10m longer and 3m wider than gas ships that normally visit the harbour, according to Darwin Port. The unladen ship had an eventful journey to Darwin - the crew reporting it listed 40 degrees as it caught the tail end of the typhoon off Japan. The ship leaves Darwin today with it's $40 million cargo but is only about 80 per cent full.

Energy saving LNG-Carrier named

Jul 07, 2011 08:48

NYK Line and Tokyo LNG Tanker, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, yesterday held a naming ceremony for ‘Energy Horizon’, their jointly owned LNG carrier, Baird Maritime reports. The vessel is currently being built at the Sakaide Shipyard of the Kawasaki Heavy Industries. Tokyo LNG Tanker owns 10 percent of the ‘Energy Horizon’, while NYK owns the remaining 90 percent. After construction is completed, the ship will be chartered for 20 years and be used for shipments of LNG to Japan from various countries, including Australia. The vessel is a Moss-type LNG carrier, the largest type, and has a tank capacity of 177,000 cubic metres, which makes it possible to increase transport efficiency. In addition, it is a new energy-saving vessel, the first in the world to be equipped with a reheat turbine plant, which reduces fuel consumption by up to 15 percent over conventional steam turbine vessels.
