Genco-Bourgogne

The crew of the 'Genco Bourgogne', enroute from Ceyhan to Baltimore, rescued the three crew members of the sailing yacht' Zion' east-northeast of Bermuda on Feb. 3, 2026, in the North Atlantic, coordinated by the maritime authorities east of Bermuda. . The three sailors were about 50 miles from Bermuda when they sent out a distress call but had to wait 36 hours before the carrier arrived, which had been identified as the nearest suitable vessel. The ship diverted course in heavy weather. Progress was constrained by strong winds and heavy swell, and the vessel navigated demanding North Atlantic conditions for close to 24 hours to reach the reported position. Upon sighting the sailing yacht, recovery operations extended over several hours. Multiple approaches were required before all three persons were safely recovered onboard, thanks to sound seamanship, careful ship handling and sustained judgement exercised throughout the operation. Under the leadership of Captain Pankaj Kochhar and the Chief Engineer Sambhaji Kambli, the crew maintained control of the bulk carrier and the situation in challenging conditions. Following the recovery, the yachtsmen were provided with food, dry clothing, first aid and care, and were subsequently safely disembarked in coordination with the relevant authorities, in line with standard maritime practice. The yacht was left to drift. The Genco Bourgogne' arrived in the port of destination on Feb 7.
