Perpetrators stole engine spares
On Dec 7 2024, at 3.45 a.m. the 'Genco Augustus', en route from Itaqui to Qingdao, was boarded by eight unarmed perpetrators about 3.1 nautical miles northwest of Pulau Cula in pos. 1° 4' N 103.40.4' E, while underway in the eastbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme in the Singapore Strait , The intruders stole engine spares. No injuries among the crew were reported.
Genco Shipping Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy
April 21 (Bloomberg) — Peter Georgiopoulos’s Genco Shipping & Trading Ltd., an operator of dry-bulk cargo ships, filed for bankruptcy as weakness in charter rates made it difficult for the company to pay its creditors. Genco, which owns or operates vessels that transport iron ore, coal, grain, steel and other products worldwide, listed assets of $2.4 billion and debt of $1.5 billion in a Chapter 11 filing on April 21 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan.
