Fitjar

The last reserve ferry in Oslo, the "Fitjar", broke down at the ferry dock in Kvanndal on Nov 23, 2016, creating problems for ferry traffic in the county. Due to the technical problems in connection with an overheated stern tube and a failure of the cooling system the ship could not get out of the ferry port in Kvanndal. It was inserted as a spare ferry for the ordinary one which was sent to Fedje serving the route Fedje - Austrheim since Nov 22 evening after the grounding of the "Fedjefjord" which was now docked at Noryards in Bergen for several weeks, and the destruction of the "Strand" in a fire. The "Fitjar" had a bottom touch on June 27, 2014, at 9.30 p.m. while underway from Ranavik to Skjersholmane. The ferry had to return to the dock of Ranavik. After the passengers were disembarked, the crew examined the ferry to check that everything was in order. By June 29, the ship was still sidelined due to rudder damage suffered in the incident.
