A harbour pilot was rescued after falling into the water while attempting to board the 'Emerald Princess', with about 3,080 passengers and 1,200 crew members on board, off Kauai, Hawaii, on Feb. 10, 2026, prompting a brief man overboard response and the cancellation of the vessel’s port call at Nawiliwili. The cruise ship was preparing to enter Nawiliwili at approximately 7:45 a.m., when the incident occurred. The ship was operating a Hawaii itinerary at the time. The harbour pilot was making his third attempt to board the vessel via a rope ladder from a pilot boat, when he lost his footing and fell an estimated 10 to 20 feet deep into the water. The captain of the 'Emerald Princess' immediately announced a man overboard situation. The crew aboard the pilot boat quickly maneuvered to recover the man from the water. He could be pulled back aboard the pilot boat within minutes. He was not seriously injured. At the time of the incident, east-facing shores of Kauai were under a high surf advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Strong winds were producing breaking waves of 7' to 10', with surf heights forecast between 8' and 12'. Following the failed boarding attempt, the cruise ship canceled the Kauai port call.

Princess Cruises has notified guests currently sailing aboard the 'Emerald PrincessÄ, en route to Hawaii, that the vessel?s scheduled call to Maui has been cancelled and instead the vessel will be visiting an alternate port on the Big Island. The vessel's final port of call in the Aloha state was to have been Lahaina, on the western coast of Maui, on Aug 14. Because of recent wildfires that have caused massive damage and displacement in the region, that call was no longer possible.

A 3-year-old girl was medevaced from the 'Emerald Princess' on May 24, 2023, by a Coast Guard helicopter. She was suffering from seizure-like symptoms aboard the cruise ship which was 90 miles off the coast of Santa Barbara, California. After communication between three different crews, the Coast Guard determined a helicopter was the best course of action. Upon arrival, the crew hoisted the young girl and her mother onto the helicopter and brought them to Harbor UCLA Medical Center. The toddler was now in stable condition

On Aug 8, 2022, a medical emergency was reported on board the 'Emerald Princess' which was was bound for Edinburgh after leaving Invergordon in the evening after a person fell ill and needed to be medevaced. The Invergordon RNLI lifeboat 'Agnes app Barr' was launched and headed to the ship which had stopped at the Moray Firth Fairway Buoy.Two specially-trained crew members of the lifeboat transferred the patient on board, and a senior medic from the cruise liner joined the team. The lifeboat made its way back to Invergordon West Harbour where an ambulance and Rapid Response Team was waiting along with the local coastguard. The patient was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for further treatment. The senior medic was taken back to the cruise ship which continued its voyage southbound.
