The 'Ümit K.' broke lose from its moorings and sank at the Kumcular Pier in Kartal, Istanbul, in the severe southwesterly storm which raged on Nov 29, 2021. A police team was dispatched to the scene upon the notice of those who saw the distressed ships. Nearby the 'Boras' started to tilt to starboard side and was in the process of sinking too. The owners of the "Umit K." have financial difficulties and permanent repairs were yet to start in Tuzla. The vessel remained stationary at the Kartal repair pier as of May 31, 2019. SHe had been in collision with the "Hakan Kalkavan" in pos. 40 52 N 29 11 E on Dec 17, 2017 due to adverse weather conditions. There was no development of a repair schedule for the vessel and no crew and watchman on board.
