Oct 28 Update: Bulk carrier ALI M was refloated early in the morning Oct 27 with the help of a tug, and sailed to anchorage at Plataria bay under own power. Understood she’s at anchor, undergoing survey for possible damages.

Oct 24 Update: As of 1700 UTC ALI M was still aground. She said to be in load, port traffic control is blamed for grounding – ALI M had to give way to ferries in dire straits, and strayed into shallows. No leak reported.

Bulk carrier ALI M ran aground or contacted bottom while approaching Igoumenitsa, Greece, at around 0700 UTC on Oct 22. Vessel was anchored near grounding site, with tug at her side, at 0500 UTC Oct 24, situation not clear. Greek CG said vessel is detained for survey and investigation, but didn’t say it’s still aground. According to several sources, vessel sailed into sandy shallows. No leak reported.
