Grounding on Welland Canal
The 'Algoma Intrepid', enroute from Port Weller, ran aground on Dec 9, 2020, while exiting the Welland Canal at Port Colborne towards the Lake Erie, south of Wharf 17 in Port Colborne at 6:43 a.m. The 'Algoma Intrepid' slid alongside the 'Cuyahoga' before coming to rest near the Marine Recycling Corp.’s Port Colborne ship recycling yard in an area occupied by the soon-to-be scrapped 'Paul H Townsend' just a few weeks ago. There was no pollution and no injuries observed. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada would not be involved. The seaway corporation was investigating and looking over both vessels. The McKeil Marine tug 'Beverly M I' was tied on the starboard side of the 'Algoma Intrepid' and refloated the vessel around10 p.m. It berthed in Port Colborne. On Dec 10 she resumed the voyage to Goderich with an ETA as of Dec 11.
