Ekspressen

Halfway between Hareid and Ålesund the front of the speed ferry "Tideekspress" was knocked out, and thousands of liters of seawater poured into the lounge. The dramatic incident happened just after 3 pm. on Nov 25, 2011 during the storm Berit. Suddenly the boat climbed up on a large wave, and was turned down again with great force, getting the front door smashed. The entire lounge was soon filled with water 10-15 centimetres . Everyone was soaking wet, and there was panic in the beginning. But the crew was quickly calming down the 19 passengers. They equipped them with life jackets, while the "Tideekspress' limped back to port. The boat managed to get to Ålesund on its own. After 15-20 minutes, it could dock, and passengers could disembark. The "Tideekspress" is serving the Ålesund- Valderøya - Hareid-route.
