Injured crew member medevaced off Gran Canaria
On Jan 30, 2026, the 'Gala', enroute from Las Palmas to Conakry, requested the medical evacuation of a Ukrainian crew member who had been injured in a fall aboard the vessel, which was sailing 124 nautical miles south of Gran Canaria. The CCS of Salvamento Marítimo in Las Palmas deployed the SAR helicopter Helimer 215, which hoisted the victim and transported him to the helipad at the Doctor Negrín Hospital.
Technical failure in Istanbul Strait
The "Angelo Maria", enroute from Constantza to Norfolk (USA), suffered a technical failure at the northern entrance of Istanbul Strait on March 21, 2018, at 7 a.m. The vessel's strait passage permission temporarily cancelled until completion of repairs which have been commenced by the crew while the ship remained stationary at the northern entrance of the Istanbul Strait.
