First vessel uses extended Shetland quay at Lerwick

Jul 31, 2016 13:18

The £11.95m quay extension project at Lerwick Harbour’s deep water Dales Voe Base has reached an important milestone, with the first large vessels using the new facility. The expansion has seen the quayside extended by 75m to 130m to service a range of offshore activities, including subsea projects and decommissioning work. Last week the coaster Eendracht was the first to use the completed first phase of the quay when it berthed to unload kit for an offshore contract off Canada. And, earlier this week, the day after the second phase was handed over by contractors to Lerwick Port Authority, Subsea 7’s 18,666 tonne, 146-m Seven Waves tied up to load the equipment.

Collision on the Oste

Nov 26, 2015 12:38

In the morning of Nov 26, 2015, at 5.30 a.m. the "Transcapricorn" enroute from Rotterdam to Tornio was in collision with the "Eendracht" in the Oste Estuary. The "Eendracht" was underway with a project cargo on the Elbe towards the Northsea when she held her course at buoy 52 due to unknown reasons and crossed the fairway so that she approached the "Transcapricorn" which was loaded mainly with scrap metal. Both ships had pilot assistance. The "Eendracht" then changed her course to port, while the "Transcapricorn" turned sharply to starboard. A collision could not be prevented, both ships clashed with their sterns. They were outside the fairway at this point. The "Transcapricorn" turned around and got stuck at the soutern Elbe shore underneath the Oste estuary. The tug "Wulf 7" and other tugs were called to assist and pulled the ship off. Also the anti pollution vessel "Neuwerk" and the lifeboat "Hermann Helms" attended. The "Transcapricorn" was anchored on Neufeld-West roads after the accident. Also the "Eendracht“ which had been underway from Hamburg to Harlingen dropped anchor on Neufeld Roads before berthing in Cuxhaven at 2.30 p.m. She resumed her voyage at 11.50 p.m., ETA Harlingen Nov 27, 1 p.m. German report with photo: http://www.nez.de/lokales/news0/frachtschiffe-stossen-auf-elbe-zusammen.html
