Released ship reaches Salalah

The "Fairchem Bogey2 and 21 crew members released from captivity by Somali pirates last have reached Salalah port, Oman in the night of Jan 18, 2012. An Indian Navy ship was escorting the vessel on its way back to Salalah from where it was hijacked by Somali pirates on August 20, 2011. The returning crew members are likely to stay in Salalah for couple of days for medical check up and other formalities, before flying back to their respective areas.

Somalia Report says Somali pirates released chemical tanker Fairchem Bogey afternoon Jan 12 2012 after they received a ransom, dropped from helicopter. Pirates said ransom sum is $8 million, which is of course, rather doubtful, considering the cargo, part-load of methanol. There are no confirmations from other sources yet, let’s hope the news are correct and vessel is free. Hijack news: 20 August 2011 pirates hijacked chemical tanker Fairchem Bogey. Tanker was achored in the designated anchorage area of Salalah port Oman, in position 16 54 N and 054 03 E, awaiting berthing instructions, when the hijackers managed to board the ship from a vessel that was ferrying a load of cattle, at 0150 UTC. The ship prior to reaching Salalah had discharged cargo at Al Jubail, Saudi Arabia, after Salalah tanker was destined for China. Tanker had armed guards on board, but had released them in Oman.
