Ship sank after water ingress off Laâyoune
The 'Dura Bulk', enroute from Agadir to El Aaiún with a cargo of bulk clinker, sank on the evening of Feb 28, 2026, off the coast of Laâyoune, after reporting a water ingress, while heading towards the city port. At the time of the distress call, it was sailing at a speed of 2.5 knots and was scheduled to arrive on March 1 at 11:00 p.m. An SAR operation was conducted under the coordination of local maritime authorities. All crew members, were rescued and transferred to shore in good condition, with no serious injuries reported. " Despite attempts to stabilise the ship, it could not be prevented from sinking. The Ministry of Transport and Logistics launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances and causes of the sinking. The authorities were closely monitoring the situation, particularly regarding any potential environmental impacts related to the cargo. The vessel had recently made port calls in Agadir and Laâyoune before the incident. The ship was owned by the Arabella Enterprises Corporation, based in Las Palmas, and had been making the journey from Las Palmas to Laâyoune for years, transporting cargoes including sand and clinker.
