Container ship placed under quarantine
The "Acrux N." was placed under quarantine upon its arrival off Brooklyn, New York, on Sep 16, 2019, after it was found to be infested with insects that could potentially do great harm to crops in the area if they were to spread. The vessel which arrived from Philadelphia before stopping at the Red Hook terminal, was extensively fumigated after a phytosanitary inspection upon arrival, which found it to be carrying the spotted lanternfly. Eight counties in New Jersey are under special quarantine to prevent the spotted lanternfly from spreading, and New York was under a high risk threat from the insect as well. The "Acrux N" left New York again on Sep 17 and headed to Savannah.
