BOTTOM TOUCH AND ALLISION IN RIGA : COMMENTS

Jan 08, 2020 09:33

VESSEL TOUCHING THE BOTTOM WHILE ALONGSIDE AT FIRST BERTH KS TERMINAL RIGA: Comments : Root Cause Analysis: Direct result of Charterers failure to comply with their ultimate obligation to provide safe birth. The berth of KS TERMINAL is a relatively shallow berth. The terminal had installed some moveable extensions on the berth that shifted the berth towards the deeper parts of the basin. These extensions did not prove to be stable enough, causing the vessel to touch bottom at the shallower part of the berth’s basin. Corrective Actions: As soon as the vessel touched the bottom, the Master issued a self-explanatory protest letter addressed to Charterers. Owners’ P&I Club came on board and the Managers requested an underwater inspection. The U/W inspection was carried out under the presence of the Master. The underwater inspection showed that the vessel’s hull and equipment haven’t sustained any damage and the vessel was, subsequently, allowed to sail without delay. Preventive Actions: Ιn this case, the Master and the crew took all the necessary actions and followed the relevant procedures. The seamen showed proper seamanship and the incident was reported as per the relevant procedures. VESSEL ALLEGED THAT DAMAGED THE FENDERS AT THE SECOND BERTH DURING HER LOADING AT THE PORT OF RIGA: Comments: Root Cause Analysis: Direct result of Charterers failure to comply with their ultimate obligation to provide safe birth Corrective Actions: When the captain was informed of the alleged damage caused by his ship to the fenders, he issued a letter that fully rejected those claims. The fenders were already damaged from previous vessel(s). It is noted that the ship was berthed with tugs and experienced pilot. Preventive Actions: The crew members of the vessels under our management, have been instructed to take high resolution photos or videos of fenders while berthing . This will reduce the fictitious claims for fenders or buoy damages by terminals.
