Tanker suffered increase of exhaust gas temperature

Mar 11, 2025 11:56

The 'Doña Josefina' suffered a technical breakdown that forced it to interrupt its voyage from Valparaíso to Talcahuano on the early morning of March 10. There was an increase in the temperature of the exhaust gases from the main engine. As a preventive measure, it was decided to stop in order to carry out an investigation. As the origin of the technical problem could not be immediately identified, it was decided to anchor in Caleta Chanco for a detailed and thorough evaluation in order to define the steps to follow. The 'Doña Josefina' was expected to resume the voyage during the afternoon.

Tanker suffered propulsion loss

Jan 16, 2025 12:43

The 'Doña Josefina', en route from Quintero, suffered a propulsion loss on Jan 14, 2025, and dropped anchor at the height of the Club de Yates de Recreo, commune of Viña del Mar, in the Valparaíso Bay. The incident, however, caused the resignation of part of the crew of the ship. The damage triggered the need to move the trawler 'Unionsur' away from the area with the intention of avoiding a possible collision. The ship had arrived on the Chilean coast as a new acquisition of Marval to replace the tanker Don 'Pancho', which is used to supply ships arriving in the area and is about to complete 20 years of service.

Repair in Kiel

The "Northsea Alpha" remained under repair in Kiel on March 26. Four days ago a fuel line had ruptured, followed by smoke development in the engine room and an automatical shutdown as a consequence. The ship then was disabled and grounded between Oldenbüttel and Breiholz. After an emergency repair she reached Kiel. Besides the repairs and the class inspection also a damage survey by a diver was to be carried out. The tanker left the Voith Quay in Kiel on April 9 at 8.30 p.m. after repairs were finished. She next headed to Naynäshamn, ETA April 11.
